International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations 26.10.1961


The so-called Rome Convention is the first significant international treaty on the protection of performers, producers of phonograms and broadcasting organizations. Among the others, the convention introduces legal definitions of ‘phonograms’ and ‘producer of phonograms’, acknowledges the necessity of a remuneration for permitted uses of creative works and provides for certain general exceptions.
